Hold on, you might be thinking, what do I mean when I say “don’t expect extras?!”. Surely God will do MORE than we ask or imagine. He is an extravagant God. He is the God of more than enough.
Well I agree with that. When it comes to the results of your faith, God is extra! I’ve prayed for thousands of pounds, and been given tens of thousands. I’ve prayed for one car and been given three. I’ve asked for a ministry to thousands, and we are right now through TV ministering to hundreds of thousands!
When it comes to the results of faith, God’s power is unlimited and don’t limit Him. That is what I am trying to teach people.
But, and it is a huge but… When it comes to the requirements that you require to having faith, you do not have the right to ask for extras. Some people will only have faith for healing if Kenneth Copeland or Andrew Wommack prays for them, others need to feel a fire or a touch, others need a prayer cloth or oil. All of these things can bring healing, but they are extras to your faith, they limit the places and ways you can believe and trust God.
That’s why in the New Testament no one sets a fleece. Every Christian I know who has set a fleece gets fleeced! You know what I mean… When someone says if a blue car drives past I will tithe this month. If the pastor invites my favourite evangelist, then I will be healed. If the radio wakes up to Billy Joel, I will go to church today.
No, you need to reach the place where there are no extras. The Word on its own is enough. If it’s in the Word, I believe it… It’s that simple.
There is a man, in Matthew 8, a centurion who tells Jesus his servant is sick. Jesus offers to go visit the man’s house. The man says that’s unnecessary, the Word is enough.
That is the only time in the Bible that someone’s faith amazed Jesus. It was faith with no extras. Abraham needed blood, Moses needed a burning bush, Thomas needed to touch Jesus’ hands, the woman with the issue of blood needed to touch his garment, there’s Christians in England who need Andrew Wommack to fly the UK and lay hands on them, others need a prophetic word or two or three, others need a good report from the doctors or they will never believe God, others need to be in a conference. But if we would all be a bit more Centurion and just trust the Word, we would have a deeper walk with Jesus, see more miracles and have a greater life.
God has given all of us His Word. You have to decide whether to believe and receive or doubt and do without. But the easier you make it to believe, and the ultimate is to believe with no extras, just the Word, the more results you will have in your life.
