Did you know in every church God calls everyone there to be a servant? Not just the pastor and elders? All of us are supposed to be servants of the Most High God. And serving is absolutely an awesome thing. I am seeing so many people fail to enter into their destiny because they don’t realize serving is awesome. I want everyone reading this blog to say outloud: SERVING IS AWESOME! It really is. For the next few weeks, I am going to give you some of the BIBLICAL REASONS why it is true that serving is awesome.
And you know it really is not just pastors who serve, taxi-drivers can serve, doctors can serve, bankers can serve, even I heard from the Bible that tax collectors can serve in their local church!
Now what are the elements of serving? Serving is doing something someone else has asked you to do. So there are three elements: the doing, the doing what was asked, and the doing it in the way that person would appreciate it. Some people lead worship but they don’t listen to the pastor about how the worship should be, so they are not serving, not really. A servant gives up their own interests to serve. That’s why your flesh doesn’t think it is awesome, but it truly is.
God called Job “his servant”, and Job was a businessman, not a pastor, so you can be a businessman and still serve. I am trying to inspire you to serve because it is awesome.
Here is the first reason serving is awesome – it always brings addition and increase to your life. Matthew 6.33 says Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and ALL THESE THINGS will be ADDED TO YOU.
When you put God’s kingdom first, things will be added to you. Do you want addition in your life? Serve! Why was Job the richest business of his day? Because he was a servant!
To seek God’s kingdom you have to stop seeking your own kingdom. You have to put God’s will first, you have to become a servant. Again, this is not just for pastors, it is for all of us.
To serve God is to seek what God’s kingdom is about before your kingdom. To serve a church is to help the church in its vision before you think about your own!
To serve someone else is to make them bigger and promote them and their name. That is putting the kingdom of God first in your life. And if you do it, things will be added. To serve someone is to be useful to them. To serve someone is to do it their way, not your way.
It is important that our highest service is to God, that we seek to do things God’s way, and put His kingdom first. Seeking God and His kingdom is the most profitable thing you can do, above every job and business deal. Things will be added to you. Things that other people are weeping about not having will be handed to you if you serve!
Seek God’s kingdom. Do not seek your own kingdom. Do not self-promote. If you are seeking your kingdom and promoting yourself, if you are bringing your book to a conference you are not speaking at, you are not serving. If you are telling people about you all the time, you are not serving. If you cannot be in church if you are not playing guitar in the band, you are not serving. If you are putting your kingdom first, you are not serving. You will not get things added to you!
It’s a very simple verse Matthew 6.33 but the principle upholding it will change your life one way or the other, either work with it or against it, but you will be defined by it. You will seek God’s kingdom and have things added to you, or you will seek your own kingdom and not have things added to you.
Learn to serve, a house will be added to you. A car will be added to you. Some great clothes will be added to you. Food will be added to you. And a kitchen to cook the food in will be added to you. A car to go to the shops to buy the food will be added to you.
God can clothe you better than you can clothe you. God can feed you better than you can feed you. It’s that simple.
Make a choice today which side of this verse you want to be on!
